In addition to the beautiful August weather we have had this summer, we have had the pleasure of capturing the wedding day for some amazing couples including Noelle + Joey! For their wedding day, they chose the always beautiful Boston Harbor Hotel to celebrate. Noelle along with her parents and bridesmaids got ready in their Back Bay residence with breathtaking views of Boston while Joey and the guys got ready back at the Hotel.

Following the ceremony at Boston’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross, we headed to the Boston Harbor Hotel for formal photos. Noelle loves bright pops of color and because she wanted her wedding to have a softer color palate, she found a way to sneak in some color for some photographs under the Rotunda with several giant balloons in bright pink, orange and yellow! Before heading to the reception, we had the opportunity to take a few more photographs at the Admiral’s Suite with roof-deck overlooking both all of downtown Boston and Boston Harbor while the was setting over the city just before sunset with the couple and their families.

The reception kicked off in the Wharf Room with the music of Night Shift and a first dance that had everybody on their feet cheering for Noelle + Joey. We asked both the couple as well as planner Janie Haas of Janie Haas Events to describe the inspirations behind this beautiful event and here is what they had to say:

From Noelle + Joey: “We wanted a soft, romantic, clean, fresh, flirty and modern Boston wedding. Most importantly we wanted the day to be fun and festive!”

We asked Janie Haas to describe the inspiration behind the design and style of the day: “After our first meeting with Noelle and Joey, I asked her to email me adjectives and phrases that would best define her vision. These are the phrases that she sent back to me: fresh, sophisticated, classically elegant, luxurious, vintage and” like a deconstructed fairytale!”  I must admit that, until we got further along in the planning, I wasn’t sure exactly how we were going to pull this off until I realized that Noelle’s fairytale wedding would be a direct reflection of Noelle who was a lot like Grace Kelly and also a lot of fun!! Using sleek mirrored tables with glass vases, orchids and candles  in conjunction with soft, ivory circle linens with luscious, full blush toned floral arrangements was just the right mix of fresh, sophisticated and elegant. The black dance floor, along with white draping and exquisite lighting finished off the room and the end result was truly magical.

While many brides and grooms are nervous on their wedding day, this beautiful couple was completely relaxed and full of fun. Noelle took pictures under the arch of the Boston Harbor Hotel with giant hot colored helium balloons which she then gave to little children who were watching with their parents. She also changed from her gorgeous wedding gown into a fabulous little party dress once the night kicked in and guests were in full party mode. As always, Nightshift kept everyone on the dance floor until the very end when late night snacks were given to all of the guests. It was a fairytale wedding, even for those of us working! Everyone had a blast!”

Thank you to Janie Haas Events – Janie and Maria and to Michael and the team of the Boston Harbor Hotel for being so wonderful to work with!  A big Congratulations to Noelle + Joey and thank you for having us there to capture your special day for you, your family and friends!

It’s not every day we get to go to a party like this!

Guests had no idea what they were in for when the evening began, but they did know something unique was about to happen. The invitations asked guests to arrive at the Meadowbrook School in Weston at 5:30pm (with a note that said “Don’t be late”).

Daisy baskets and balloons adorned each table, and drink tickets were passed out to the guests as they arrived. A DJ was playing classic cliché party songs (like the conga) and a full buffet table was set (or so it appeared that way). There was just one thing – it was all for show, and this wasn’t the party!

After about 30 mins of cocktail hour it was time to let a night of surprises begin, starting with a grand entrance by Richard Simmons to kick things off! Richard and a flash mob of dancers (who had been posing as wait staff during cocktail hour) got the crowd going to Party Rock Anthem. When the song ended, he announced “Wait a minute you guys – this isn’t the party! Come on, follow me!”… The guests headed outside and were given small champagne bottles as they loaded up in vans for destination unknown.

The motorcade finally stopped on the runway at the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. The cars pulled up to a hanger with a large custom tent alongside it. The tent was divided into several rooms, starting with a vibrant, colorful cocktail reception. Designer Marc Hall commented that “the design inspiration for the night was piloted by the passion the clients have for intense color”, and it definitely showed.

For this space, custom fabric treatments including the large lampshade over the bar, acrylic tables and caviar station, 5′ tall orange velvet diamond tufted banquettes and 5′ tall diamond shaped mirror vases we all custom made for the client. Every detail from the origami place cards to the color shirts and ties of the staff was hand picked to go with each color scheme adding to the wow factor of the design!

After cocktails, guests were led through a fabric lit blue corridor into the dining room. Draped fabric ceilings, dramatic lighting by PORT Lighting Systems, tables and chairs filled with even more custom decor and stunning floral arrangements took everyone’s breath away.

As dinner service was perfectly executed by the team at The Catered Affair (who also coordinated and produced the event), the guests enjoyed another surprise — a private concert performance by Partridge Family star David Cassidy! David was a big hit, especially when he sang “I Think I Love You”.  The night was still far from over!

A journey through another beautifully draped area of the tent led the party guests to their final destination for the evening which took place inside the airplane hanger itself.  Brand new white luxury pod seating with pearl banquettes and ottomans from PBD Events filled the space and popped against the black walls and flooring with purple and blue spot lighting by East Coast Lighting.

Once all the guests had made it in, it was time for the final surprise of the night to be unveiled – an actual Live Nation concert! A 60 foot tall section of fabric dropped to reveal a full scale stage. Behind the curtain – Bon Jovi!!! The band performed to perfection for 100+ guests and with so much energy in the room, the band even came back for a 15 minute encore! Everyone who was part of this unbelievable event had an amazing night to remember and we are so thrilled we were there to capture it all!

Last week we stopped by the Boston Public Library for a few minutes to take some photographs of a gorgeous room set up for an event by The Catered Affair.

The BPL’s Abbey Room looked amazing and was created by The Catered Affair’s own Ed Quinones who came up with the overall design and concept for this corporate dinner party. The white floral arrangements were by Flowers By Victoria with rentals by Be Our Guest and PBD Events. The red uplighting and white pin spots completed the look with the talents of ALPS Lighting.

Below are just a handful of the images of the beautiful completed set up prior to the event.

Our dear friend and owner of SD Events, Tasha Bracken, recently reached out to us to capture a surprise 50th birthday party at the Ames Hotel in downtown Boston. The dinner party was held in the hotel’s Gallery Room for Charlie, the guest of honor and 15 of his closest friends and family members. Charlie is a pilot and Tasha was able to carry that theme throughout the evening, starting with the little planes in the entryway, to the menu cards that looked like boarding tickets and even the classic airplane peanuts in the take away bags for the end of the evening. The space was warm and intimate, with a long dark-stained wooden family-style table for dining, earthy floral arrangements in wooden boxes for decoration, and soft votive candle lighting.

Below are just a few of our favorite images from the evening. A special thanks to Tasha for thinking of Person + Killian Photography to capture this beautifully decorated intimate affair.

Recently, we were asked to photograph the 2010 Holiday Soiree for The Ritz Carlton, Boston Common.

The event came together with the joint efforts of the Ritz staff and culinary team (led by Ritz Executive Chef Fabian Ludwig). Lending their talents were some of Boston’s finest event professionals that included floral designs by Winston Flowers, decor by PBD Events, rentals from Be Our Guest and music by “DJ Deja”, Denise LaCarubba.

Thank you to everyone at the Ritz for thinking of Person + Killian to capture this beautiful event. Below are some of our favorite shots of the decor and decadent cuisine from the evening!

Person + Killian Photography had the pleasure of photographing an amazing Boston Bat Mitzvah that was made possible by the fabulous team at Rafanelli Events. The morning started out at the beautiful Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline. The events of the day continued at The Ritz-Carlton Boston where the 2nd floor was transformed into one of Zoe and her family’s favorite vacation spots in Cannes, France. The guests experienced an array of surprises throughout the evening with everything from VIP style cabanas, a cotton candy dessert station and video montage all leading up to the highlight of the night.  Zoe and her guests were treated to a performance by “Status Quo” from MTV’s “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew“. It was such a pleasure to work once again with so many of our friends in the business from video by AfterImage Productions, stunning table arrangements by Spruce Floral and the amazing decor from ceiling to floor from Be Our Guest, PBD Events and Rentals Unlimited. A special thank you to Erin Palank, Julie Wolman and the rest of the crew at Rafanelli Events as well as Laura Fox and the team at The Ritz-Carlton, Boston for making this such a wonderful event to have been a part of. P+K are looking forward to capturing future Bat and Bar Mitzvahs with wonderful warm and loving families like Zoe’s. Mazal tov and Happy 13th to Zoe!
