How do you make a fun and memorable Bar Mitzvah? Start with an amazing family, add lots of friends and loved ones to join in the celebration, and of course a room full of race cars doesn’t hurt either!

For Zachary’s big day, he really wanted to incorporate one of his life’s greatest passions — cars. For his traditional mitzvah project, he pledged to complete 360 track laps in his go-cart and set up a GoFundMe page for friends and family to sponsor his efforts. All of the money he raised was then donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to help patients and the progression of cancer research.

His love of cars was carried over into his Bar Mitzvah celebration decor with Lamborghinis, Corvettes, and sports cars of all different kinds atop each table. Sleek details of black, blue, and white made the whole room pop and really carry the theme throughout. At the end of the day, everyone was there to have fun. Kids and adults alike enjoyed food, games, a photo booth and lots of dancing to celebrate Zachary on this very special day!

In 2012 we photographed the Bat Mitzvah of Danielle and were thrilled when her family asked us back to capture the celebration for her little brother Liam. Liam’s Bar Mitzvah celebration was held earlier this month in the Grand Ballroom of the Taj Boston Hotel. All of the event design and planning was coordinated by talented team at Janie Haas Events. We asked lead planner Stephanie to share with us some of the inspiration behind this modern, colorful and fun sneaker themed event.

“When I first sat and met with Ronit and Liam, I could tell we were going to have a lot of fun! Liam was very enthusiastic about being involved with planning of his Bar Mitzvah celebration, but beyond requesting a really cool and unique party, the specifics were unknown. I knew he wanted clubby lounge seating and loved the color orange!  During a meeting with their DJ, Kupah James, we sat together and talked about sneakers the entire meeting. When I was able to steal Liam’s attention and get him to focus on the planning agenda, I asked him if he liked the idea of subtle sneaker theme and he became quite excited. He and I started drawing potential logos at the dining room table, the idea being to create his name out of a shoelace. We took a preliminary sketch to the very talented Michael from Prop Factory, who really brought the logo to life and the rest sort of spiraled into an awesome décor concept.

From there, I tried to merge the idea of clubby and cool with sneakers and decided to pitch the idea of an elite shoe launch ambiance, which was very well received. Liam provided me with a list of his top 15 favorite sneakers, ranging from attainable to impossible to locate. Michael from the Prop Factory managed to find every pair on his list! A rare pair of Jordan 6 Retro “Cigar” sneakers appeared in a custom made acrylic box for guests to sign, while another 15 pairs hung from display truss flanking the DJ booth, provided by Frost Production and PBD Events. Liam changed into a pair of Yeezy Boost 350’s for the dancing portion of the night, while his sister, Danielle rocked a pair of Chanel Sneaker Wedges! Sneakers appeared subtly in every detail, from the step and repeat backdrop to the table top graphics on the kids tables, to footprints leading from the ballroom doors to the balcony stairs, to the card box which was made out of Nike shoe boxes. One of the kids’ activities was a custom Nike Elite branding station where the kids designed their own authentic Nike Elite socks to take home. Who would have thought this all started with some sketching at the dining room table . . .?”

Mazal Tov to Liam and his wonderful family! We can not thank you enough for having us back to once again photograph such a special day for all of you. A big thank you to Stephanie, Diana and the team at Janie Haas Events for a perfect evening!

Person + Killian was thrilled to be able to photograph a destination Bar Mitzvah with Rafanelli Events in gorgeous Palm Beach, Florida!

The Bar Mitzvah took place at The Mar-a-Lago Club and was transformed into “Club Cole at Hotel CK” for the event. We had some time with the family to utilize the beautiful property for some formal photographs before heading into the Gold and White Ballroom for the traditional Havdala service.

Cocktail hour was held at the Poolside Casino and included motivators who took on the rolls of security guards, a pit boss lifeguard and shot girls who interacted with the crowd. An iPad sign-in-board was set up next to the Paparazzi photo shoot where guests could take home the photos at the end of the night.

Following the cocktail reception, guests were welcomed into the main ballroom “Club Cole”. The reception kicked off with the Hora, followed by a night of dancing and celebration. Before the night ended, the guests were treated to the surprise headliner of the night – a concert by Sean Kingston. After the concert, Cole and his family had a chance to spend some time with Sean Kingston and Donald Trump (owner of the Mar-a-Lago) for some one on one time and some photographs.

We would like to send a special thanks to Cole and his family for being so wonderful and to the team at Rafanelli Events for this great opportunity to photograph this gorgeous event!

Destination Event Photography – Bar Mitzvah at The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach Florida by Person + Killian Photography

It’s not often we get to photograph an entire Mitzvah celebration — morning service and all — but this past Sunday afternoon Jacob’s Bar Mitzvah was a welcome exception!

Person + Killian Photography had a great time with Jacob and his whole family at this event, which began at the Congregation Kehillath Israel in Brookline with a tradition morning service, followed by a reception luncheon at the temple. Everything ran smoothly and looked gorgeous thanks to Carol Silverston and Jodi Raphael Events who did all of the planning and floral design for the celebration. After a short afternoon break, the evening dinner party kicked off a few hours later at Bella Luna Restaurant in Jamaica Plain.  Klass Universal Entertainment kept kids dancing all night!

Thanks to Jacob and the whole family for a great day, and for letting Person + Killian be a part of it! Below are some of the highlights from Jacob’s big day:

Ceremony and Luncheon Reception Venue: Congregation Kehillath Israel in Brookline; Event coordination, decor and florals by Carol Silverston; Additional Event Coordination by Jodi Raphael Events; Catering: Catering by Andrew; Evening Reception: Bella Luna Restaurant in Jamaica Plain; Reception Entertainment: Klass Universal Entertainment
