New York City based couple Jenny and Matt decided to come home to Boston to celebrate their late summer wedding. They chose one of the most historic and unique venues in the city for their celebration, the JFK Presidential Library in Boston’s Columbia Point. Supported by an A-list wedding team to help bring their vision to life, Jenny and Matt enjoyed a spectacular celebration.

The couple started the day at the nearby Seaport Hotel Boston for their getting ready and first look. It was a gorgeous late summer day outside, and we took the bride and groom around the Seaport for their formal photos. We were soon joined by the couple’s wedding party, which was made up of Jenny and Matt’s family members — parents, siblings, siblings’ spouses and nieces — and Matt’s best man was a lifelong friend of the entire group. From there we headed to the JFK Presidential Library overlooking the Boston skyline across Boston Harbor, then moved inside for the ceremony.

As guests arrived to the Library they were treated to a tour of the JFK Museum Gallery before taking their seats. The wedding ceremony was held in the JFK Presidential Library’s Museum Pavilion, a nine-story glass atrium that features stunning views of the Harbor, Harbor Islands, and the Boston city skyline. The couple said their “I do”s in a traditional Jewish ceremony, underneath a gorgeous white and green floral Chuppah from Marc Hall Design. Guests stayed in the Pavilion for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres following the ceremony, before moving into the JFK Presidential Library’s Smith Hall for the reception.

The evening decor was defined by bright colors, modern touches and a summery tropical vibe. Janie Haas and her team at Janie Haas Events pulled out all the stops for this one, with a classic white dance floor, modern clear-top  tables and uplighting in sunset colors of pink and orange. The Marc Hall team brought in stunning green fern centerpieces with smaller floral arrangements in colorful pops of pink for a very bright and festive atmosphere. The evenings dinner, drinks, and desserts were provided by Jeanne Spence and her team at Gourmet Caterers, the exclusive caterers at the JFK Presidential Library. Guests were eager to celebrate with this wonderful couple — enjoying dinner, drinks, toasts and dancing well into the night.

Special thanks to Jenny and Matt, and to their entire wedding team including Janie Haas for sending this wonderful couple our way!

Laura and Mike wanted to capture a winter wonderland for their January wedding at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. Little did they know they would have an actual snow filled day from start to finish. Because this was a destination wedding for the couple who live in DC, almost all of their guests were already staying in the hotel. This meant everyone could enjoy watching the snow from the comfort of the beautiful hotel as it fell in Copley Square. We were beyond thrilled when Laura asked us to take her and Mike outside for some photos of the two of them. We even headed back out with the wedding party who were all great sports so that we could capture some fun shots with the group and it was well worth it!

Laura and Mike chose to incorporate the gold throughout the venue and mix in blush tones for their color pallet. In addition, everything including the flowers, styles, food, venue was inspired by Laura’s love of France. The traditional Jewish ceremony took place in the Oval Room under a gorgeous chuppah designed by Lotus Floral Events and lit perfectly by Suzanne B. Lowell and her team at Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting Design.

Following the ceremony, guests continued the celebration into the night in the ballroom. Planner and coordinator Janie Haas and her team at  Janie Haas Events created the perfect look for Laura and Mike.  From Janie: “Instead of using whites and silvers on the round tables, we opted to use a heavy gorgeous silvery green/gray embroidered fabric on the round tables which were accented with creamy flowers with high white branches. While the fast falling snow outside cooperated with the look that we were trying to achieve inside, our goal was to bring the feeling of romance and dreaminess into the ballroom. Suzanne’s lighting was magical as it lit crystals in both the centerpieces and the stage.”

Congratulations Laura and Mike. We are absolutely thrilled to have had the chance to start off 2017 with such a fantastic group! A big thank you to Alice Fay and her team at the Fairmont Copley Plaza and to Janie, Maria and the team at Janie Haas Events!

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of working with Emily and her family for her Boston based, New York City themed Bat Mitzvah. We loved capturing this beautiful, fun and energetic day at Granite Links Golf Club.

From Stephanie Stark of Janie Haas Events – Planner and Coordinator for Emily’s big celebration: “When I first met back with Emily and her Mother and Grandmother back in 2014 (yes! 2 full years before the Bat Mitzvah), I knew we were going to have a lot of fun creating a fun, energetic and over the top celebration. Their expectation from Day One was to be unique, outside the box and provide an experience their guests would never forget. As I got to know Emily and her interests, I  learned that Emily is very social, she has TONS of close friends, she LOVES to dance and loves spending time in her favorite place – NYC!

They first approached me with the idea of a NYC theme, we wanted to think outside the “cliché NYC theme” box and try to shake it up a bit by introducing nods to the neighborhoods of NYC. As guests arrived, they were greeted with a larger than life NYC scape, including a giant billboard featuring Emily’s name and a collage of photos, the Statue of Liberty, NYC skyscrapers and even the Freedom Tower. Kids enjoyed their cocktail hour in a fun and urban setting, reminiscent of Brooklyn / Lower Manhattan, complete with a graffiti bar, graffiti trash can cocktail tables, graffiti artists and a couple fun street games.

The ballroom space, where guests spent the bulk of the night eating, drinking and dancing the night away gleamed and sparkled like the finest nightclub in Upper Manhattan. Siagel Productions kept the guests dancing all night long, the DJ spinning from the top of a 5ft gold mirror riser! For dinner, we themed the stations to reflect various NYC neighborhoods – We had a fabulous Chinatown Station, a plentiful Meat Packing District station and a delicious Little Italy themed food station. The adult dining tables were adorned with the most gorgeous vibrant color flowers, provided by Raymond Felton and Jimmy Guzman of Marc Hall Designs. The kids sat in fun cabana style lounges and serpentine tables provided by Art of the Event.

There were 3 event logos that were created especially for Emily and the logos were EVERYWHERE, from custom lounge pillows, to stickers on Asian to go boxes, to decals on table tops and everywhere in between. We capped off the night with an elaborate dessert display, themed the nines, provided by Sweet Indulgence from Cranston, RI. As guests left their NYC experience, they loaded up goodie bags with every imaginable sweet treat.

From soup to nuts, no details were overlooked. We had the BEST experience working with these clients and felt honored to bring this vision and experience, two years in the making, to life with the help of an amazing team of Boston’s Top vendors.”

Mazel Tov to Emily and her family!  A big thank you to Sara and her wonderful team at Granite Links for being wonderful to work with and to to Stephanie, Diana and the team at Janie Haas Events for introducing us to this wonderful family and giving Emily the day she had been dreaming of!

Boston Bat Mitzvah at Granite Links Golf Club planned and coordinated by Janie Haas Events – Photography by Person + Killian Photography – 251 Newbury Street – Boston, MA 02116, 617.236.1662 – [email protected] / [email protected]

In 2012 we photographed the Bat Mitzvah of Danielle and were thrilled when her family asked us back to capture the celebration for her little brother Liam. Liam’s Bar Mitzvah celebration was held earlier this month in the Grand Ballroom of the Taj Boston Hotel. All of the event design and planning was coordinated by talented team at Janie Haas Events. We asked lead planner Stephanie to share with us some of the inspiration behind this modern, colorful and fun sneaker themed event.

“When I first sat and met with Ronit and Liam, I could tell we were going to have a lot of fun! Liam was very enthusiastic about being involved with planning of his Bar Mitzvah celebration, but beyond requesting a really cool and unique party, the specifics were unknown. I knew he wanted clubby lounge seating and loved the color orange!  During a meeting with their DJ, Kupah James, we sat together and talked about sneakers the entire meeting. When I was able to steal Liam’s attention and get him to focus on the planning agenda, I asked him if he liked the idea of subtle sneaker theme and he became quite excited. He and I started drawing potential logos at the dining room table, the idea being to create his name out of a shoelace. We took a preliminary sketch to the very talented Michael from Prop Factory, who really brought the logo to life and the rest sort of spiraled into an awesome décor concept.

From there, I tried to merge the idea of clubby and cool with sneakers and decided to pitch the idea of an elite shoe launch ambiance, which was very well received. Liam provided me with a list of his top 15 favorite sneakers, ranging from attainable to impossible to locate. Michael from the Prop Factory managed to find every pair on his list! A rare pair of Jordan 6 Retro “Cigar” sneakers appeared in a custom made acrylic box for guests to sign, while another 15 pairs hung from display truss flanking the DJ booth, provided by Frost Production and PBD Events. Liam changed into a pair of Yeezy Boost 350’s for the dancing portion of the night, while his sister, Danielle rocked a pair of Chanel Sneaker Wedges! Sneakers appeared subtly in every detail, from the step and repeat backdrop to the table top graphics on the kids tables, to footprints leading from the ballroom doors to the balcony stairs, to the card box which was made out of Nike shoe boxes. One of the kids’ activities was a custom Nike Elite branding station where the kids designed their own authentic Nike Elite socks to take home. Who would have thought this all started with some sketching at the dining room table . . .?”

Mazal Tov to Liam and his wonderful family! We can not thank you enough for having us back to once again photograph such a special day for all of you. A big thank you to Stephanie, Diana and the team at Janie Haas Events for a perfect evening!

Boston in the summer is a wonderful time for a wedding! We love working with Janie Haas Events, and we were thrilled to join them at the InterContinental Hotel Boston for Jill and Ben’s wedding. Their classic Jewish wedding had a refined, glamorous feel, while maintaining high energy throughout the evening.

Taking advantage of the warm weather, the couple decided to have their first look and formals outdoors, in the parks and historical areas nearby, such as near the Boston Tea Party Museum and the Rose Kennedy Greenway, which really helped to catch the flavor of the city. Jill and Ben were joined by members of their wedding party for some joyful and traditional photographs to commemorate the day. Indoors, the spaces at the InterContinental Hotel were expertly embellished with fresh flowers in tones of white, silver, and blue by Michael O’Brien of Winston Flowers.

An intimate Ketubah signing, led into a traditional wedding attended by friends and family, under a beautiful floral chuppah. Following the guests being engaged in a wonderfully enthusiastic Hora to open the dance floor, the bride and groom requested their fellow alumni to join them for some quick and fun group photographs showing their university pride!

Congratulations Jill and Ben! Thank you as always to Janie and Maria of Janie Haas Events, and Paul Melino and his team at the InterContinental Hotel for their expertise and a wonderfully organized evening.

When the team at Janie Haas Events asked us to be the photographers for Abigail’s upcoming Bat Mitzvah at The Revere Hotel’s Space 57, we knew it would be fun, modern and whimsical. When the day came for the celebration, we walked into a space transformed into a  Bat Mitzvah In Wonderland. We asked planner Stephanie Stark to describe the inspiration behind the event and here is what she had to say:

“… I keep a “Mitzvah Inspiration” folder in my office and collect ideas that I tuck away for future reference. I had been holding onto this idea of a Wonderland theme event for a couple of years and waited to find the right child for this theme. Then along came Abigail. Her mother, Patricia, described her as “all girl, 100% estrogen” who wanted a fun, creative and unique theme for her Bat Mitzvah. I pitched some of the ideas I had for a Wonderland theme to Abigail and her mother- hanging chairs from the ceiling, mad hatter tea party with vintage china, a cool black and white patterned dance floor, oversized everything .. and they both LOVED the idea. I learned, after blindly pitching the idea, that Abigail’s mother used to read the book written by Lewis Carroll to Abigail as a child and that they both loved the eccentricity and whimsy of the novel. It was the perfect opportunity for us all to let our creative juices flow. Patricia brought many ideas to the table herself- like the use of many of the novel’s quotes throughout the décor. It was important to her that there be a message behind everything and not just flashy décor. With my amazing designer at Art of the Event, Elizabeth Holden, my inspired lighting designer, Suzanne Lowell and many other participants and visionaries, the event you see before came to life with adventure and excitement around every corner.”

Mazel Tov to Abigail and her family and a thank you to the amazing team at Janie Haas Events for thinking of us to capture this beautiful celebration!

In addition to the beautiful August weather we have had this summer, we have had the pleasure of capturing the wedding day for some amazing couples including Noelle + Joey! For their wedding day, they chose the always beautiful Boston Harbor Hotel to celebrate. Noelle along with her parents and bridesmaids got ready in their Back Bay residence with breathtaking views of Boston while Joey and the guys got ready back at the Hotel.

Following the ceremony at Boston’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross, we headed to the Boston Harbor Hotel for formal photos. Noelle loves bright pops of color and because she wanted her wedding to have a softer color palate, she found a way to sneak in some color for some photographs under the Rotunda with several giant balloons in bright pink, orange and yellow! Before heading to the reception, we had the opportunity to take a few more photographs at the Admiral’s Suite with roof-deck overlooking both all of downtown Boston and Boston Harbor while the was setting over the city just before sunset with the couple and their families.

The reception kicked off in the Wharf Room with the music of Night Shift and a first dance that had everybody on their feet cheering for Noelle + Joey. We asked both the couple as well as planner Janie Haas of Janie Haas Events to describe the inspirations behind this beautiful event and here is what they had to say:

From Noelle + Joey: “We wanted a soft, romantic, clean, fresh, flirty and modern Boston wedding. Most importantly we wanted the day to be fun and festive!”

We asked Janie Haas to describe the inspiration behind the design and style of the day: “After our first meeting with Noelle and Joey, I asked her to email me adjectives and phrases that would best define her vision. These are the phrases that she sent back to me: fresh, sophisticated, classically elegant, luxurious, vintage and” like a deconstructed fairytale!”  I must admit that, until we got further along in the planning, I wasn’t sure exactly how we were going to pull this off until I realized that Noelle’s fairytale wedding would be a direct reflection of Noelle who was a lot like Grace Kelly and also a lot of fun!! Using sleek mirrored tables with glass vases, orchids and candles  in conjunction with soft, ivory circle linens with luscious, full blush toned floral arrangements was just the right mix of fresh, sophisticated and elegant. The black dance floor, along with white draping and exquisite lighting finished off the room and the end result was truly magical.

While many brides and grooms are nervous on their wedding day, this beautiful couple was completely relaxed and full of fun. Noelle took pictures under the arch of the Boston Harbor Hotel with giant hot colored helium balloons which she then gave to little children who were watching with their parents. She also changed from her gorgeous wedding gown into a fabulous little party dress once the night kicked in and guests were in full party mode. As always, Nightshift kept everyone on the dance floor until the very end when late night snacks were given to all of the guests. It was a fairytale wedding, even for those of us working! Everyone had a blast!”

Thank you to Janie Haas Events – Janie and Maria and to Michael and the team of the Boston Harbor Hotel for being so wonderful to work with!  A big Congratulations to Noelle + Joey and thank you for having us there to capture your special day for you, your family and friends!
