When Ashley + Justin were looking for a venue for their dream Cape Cod wedding, they knew to look no further than the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster. This sweet couple met many years ago while working at the resort, and it seemed only fitting that it serve as home to their “Best Day Ever”!

Spending the morning with Ashley + Justin as they prepared for the ceremony, we could feel the excitement in the air. The morning culminated in an emotional and sweet first look on the terrace of the Victorian-style mansion at Ocean Edge.

The beautiful ceremony took place down by the ocean, in front of a creative arch made from two doors finished with a coastal Cape Cod whitewash, and adorned with blush pink flowers. Justin was a dapper groom, in a navy suit, awaiting his bride. Ashley was stunning in her gown, with its intricate lace and delicate rose gold accents. Beachside formal photos followed, and we were thrilled to be able to capture the joy felt by the newlyweds and their wedding party.

Fun accents of gold and settings of navy and blush were a theme throughout the elegant tented wedding reception, including unique place cards  of Moet Hennesey’s limited edition summer champagne split that doubled as favors for the guests. The cake, by the Casual Gourmet, featured gold champagne bubble accents, and a unique topper announcing that the day, as Ashley and Justin had hoped, truly had been the “Best Day Ever!”. After dancing and celebrating, a visit by the traditional Cape Cod Good Times ice cream truck was a welcome sight, and a creative addition to this night to remember.

Congratulations Ashley and Justin! Thank you for choosing Person + Killian to document your celebration.

When the team at Janie Haas Events asked us to be the photographers for Abigail’s upcoming Bat Mitzvah at The Revere Hotel’s Space 57, we knew it would be fun, modern and whimsical. When the day came for the celebration, we walked into a space transformed into a  Bat Mitzvah In Wonderland. We asked planner Stephanie Stark to describe the inspiration behind the event and here is what she had to say:

“… I keep a “Mitzvah Inspiration” folder in my office and collect ideas that I tuck away for future reference. I had been holding onto this idea of a Wonderland theme event for a couple of years and waited to find the right child for this theme. Then along came Abigail. Her mother, Patricia, described her as “all girl, 100% estrogen” who wanted a fun, creative and unique theme for her Bat Mitzvah. I pitched some of the ideas I had for a Wonderland theme to Abigail and her mother- hanging chairs from the ceiling, mad hatter tea party with vintage china, a cool black and white patterned dance floor, oversized everything .. and they both LOVED the idea. I learned, after blindly pitching the idea, that Abigail’s mother used to read the book written by Lewis Carroll to Abigail as a child and that they both loved the eccentricity and whimsy of the novel. It was the perfect opportunity for us all to let our creative juices flow. Patricia brought many ideas to the table herself- like the use of many of the novel’s quotes throughout the décor. It was important to her that there be a message behind everything and not just flashy décor. With my amazing designer at Art of the Event, Elizabeth Holden, my inspired lighting designer, Suzanne Lowell and many other participants and visionaries, the event you see before came to life with adventure and excitement around every corner.”

Mazel Tov to Abigail and her family and a thank you to the amazing team at Janie Haas Events for thinking of us to capture this beautiful celebration!

We were thrilled to have been asked by Peterson Party Center to photograph the decor for the 11th annual Party In the Park yesterday. Plus it’s always a pleasure to photograph the beautiful work of our industry friends at, The Catered Affair, Winston Flowers and Table Toppers of Newton!

“This years event took place at the Pinebank Promontory at Jamaica Pond, to support the restoration and maintenance of the Emerald Necklace park system. The genius of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed more than 1,100 acres of meadows, woodlands and paths, can be enjoyed by all more than 100 years after the completion of his work, thanks to the stewardship of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy in collaboration with its public partners

The Party in the Park is one of the conservancy’s surest signs of spring and one of the most anticipated social events in Boston. To date, the luncheon has generated a $3 million endowment fund for the parks.

Every May, just as spring declares itself in Boston, the luncheon draws hundreds of parks champions to gather for an elegant lunch served in a beautiful tent in one of the Necklace parks. Known as the “hat lunch” because so many guests complement their spring wardrobes with flowers, feathers and fascinators, the party is planned over the course of a year by an all-volunteer committee to ensure a memorable afternoon.” – Emerald Necklace

Boston Event Photography – Party In the Park 2014 with Peterson Party Center & The Catered Affair by Person + Killian Photography

Local event rental company Peterson Party Center loves showcasing the talent of all the Boston vendors they get to work with! Every month, they select a team of Boston wedding professionals to put together a gorgeous table — their “Table of the Month”, which we were thrilled to be able to photograph.

This December, event planner Edna Dratch-Parker of EFD Creative teamed with Jeri Solomon Floral Design and Megan Chapin Calligraphy to put together this picturesque winter-themed table! The designers were able to browse Peterson’s new showroom and use anything they wanted to create their masterpiece.

This table combined deep red linens with festive chargers for a bold, elegant look. Snowflake details on each place setting and a towering ice-inspired centerpiece tied together the winter theme, perfect for the month of December. “I was going for a classic and elegant holiday theme with a bit of sparkle!” – Edna

Thank you to Peterson Party Center and all the talented Boston wedding professionals who helped put this table together, we love being able to photograph your stunning work!

When Rachael and Sean starting looking for their dream wedding venue, all they knew was that they wanted “more than just a beige ballroom”. They could not have found a better location than the beautiful Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge!

After getting dressed and ready for the day at the Marlowe, the wedding party had a quick drive down Cambridge Street to the gorgeous Swedenborg Chapel to get day’s events going! The stone chapel–located right outside of Harvard Square–is a perfect venue for wedding ceremonies and is a historic landmark in Boston. The late-afternoon ceremony went beautifully, and the great weather allowed the bride and groom to greet their guests in a receiving line outside the chapel. After a few quick pictures with the happy newlyweds, it was back to the Marlowe for the cocktail hour and reception!

As well as taking inspiration from the Marlowe’s own decor, design, and architecture, Rachael and Sean wanted their love of boating and being on the water to be represented on their special day. Their wedding invitations from Inviting Company were sent out with compass motifs, which was echoed at the event itself with a compass design inlaid on the floor of the hotel! Rachael and Sean had chosen navy and gold as their wedding colors, which not only integrated perfectly with the Marlowe’s own bold patterns and design, but kept the “nautical” theme going throughout the night!

Congratulations to the newlyweds, and thanks for letting Person + Killian Photography share your wedding day with you!

It’s not every day we get to go to a party like this!

Guests had no idea what they were in for when the evening began, but they did know something unique was about to happen. The invitations asked guests to arrive at the Meadowbrook School in Weston at 5:30pm (with a note that said “Don’t be late”).

Daisy baskets and balloons adorned each table, and drink tickets were passed out to the guests as they arrived. A DJ was playing classic cliché party songs (like the conga) and a full buffet table was set (or so it appeared that way). There was just one thing – it was all for show, and this wasn’t the party!

After about 30 mins of cocktail hour it was time to let a night of surprises begin, starting with a grand entrance by Richard Simmons to kick things off! Richard and a flash mob of dancers (who had been posing as wait staff during cocktail hour) got the crowd going to Party Rock Anthem. When the song ended, he announced “Wait a minute you guys – this isn’t the party! Come on, follow me!”… The guests headed outside and were given small champagne bottles as they loaded up in vans for destination unknown.

The motorcade finally stopped on the runway at the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. The cars pulled up to a hanger with a large custom tent alongside it. The tent was divided into several rooms, starting with a vibrant, colorful cocktail reception. Designer Marc Hall commented that “the design inspiration for the night was piloted by the passion the clients have for intense color”, and it definitely showed.

For this space, custom fabric treatments including the large lampshade over the bar, acrylic tables and caviar station, 5′ tall orange velvet diamond tufted banquettes and 5′ tall diamond shaped mirror vases we all custom made for the client. Every detail from the origami place cards to the color shirts and ties of the staff was hand picked to go with each color scheme adding to the wow factor of the design!

After cocktails, guests were led through a fabric lit blue corridor into the dining room. Draped fabric ceilings, dramatic lighting by PORT Lighting Systems, tables and chairs filled with even more custom decor and stunning floral arrangements took everyone’s breath away.

As dinner service was perfectly executed by the team at The Catered Affair (who also coordinated and produced the event), the guests enjoyed another surprise — a private concert performance by Partridge Family star David Cassidy! David was a big hit, especially when he sang “I Think I Love You”.  The night was still far from over!

A journey through another beautifully draped area of the tent led the party guests to their final destination for the evening which took place inside the airplane hanger itself.  Brand new white luxury pod seating with pearl banquettes and ottomans from PBD Events filled the space and popped against the black walls and flooring with purple and blue spot lighting by East Coast Lighting.

Once all the guests had made it in, it was time for the final surprise of the night to be unveiled – an actual Live Nation concert! A 60 foot tall section of fabric dropped to reveal a full scale stage. Behind the curtain – Bon Jovi!!! The band performed to perfection for 100+ guests and with so much energy in the room, the band even came back for a 15 minute encore! Everyone who was part of this unbelievable event had an amazing night to remember and we are so thrilled we were there to capture it all!

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy has been involved in sustaining and restoring the beautiful string of parks and waterways of Boston stretching from the Charles River to Dorcester known as the “Emerald Necklace” for over a decade. Person + Killian Photography was delighted to be invited to photograph the event for The Catered Affair, whose owner Holly Safford sits as one of the Chairs for the Party in the Park event. The Catered Affair team has been hard at work under the direction and design of executive chef Shane O’Neill to prepare the menu for this event for over 700 guests.

This year’s luncheon featured remarks from the Chairs, Mayor Menino and Governor Michael Dukakis, as well as a presentation of the Justine Mee Liff Spirit Award to Malcolm Rogers of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. With great food, great company, and a lot of hard work for a great cause, this luncheon truly was “the Spring event of the year in Boston”!

Edna Dratch-Parker owner of EFD Creative who helped plan and design the event described it perfectly on her blog- “We were looking to develop a soft wintery scene, along with the creative talent of Tangerine Creations, birch trees, moss, twinkle lights in the branches and hanging from the ceiling, helped create the mystical feel. Add in the white textured fabric, special touches of snowflake name badges collaborated by Table Artistry and Megan Chapin Calligraphy and the look was complete. DJ Raffi not only added in the holiday music, but the large moving pictures on the wall along with all the lighting…you had to see it in person to experience the energy it added to the party. A big thank you goes to East Meets West Catering, desserts by Party Favors, Peterson Party Center, Rentals Unlimited, and of course Lauren Killian of Person + Killian Photography…thank you for allowing us to share the beauty of the night!”

Last Saturday Jacquie & Gabe had a down-home DIY barn style wedding reception with all their family and friends. They exchanged I do’s last October in Santa Fe, New Mexico at an intimate wedding ceremony with a handful of people. The festivities took place at Codman Farm in Lincoln, MA where a blue grass band got the party started.

The Über cool couple along with their talented event planner Amy Kimball designed all of the décor. Their barn style wedding reception was full of DIY charm and filled to the brim with adorable details. Colorful flags and lights filled the inside of the barn for cocktail hour, where guests sat on hay bales instead of chairs! The tented reception featured long, family-style tables and beautiful white, silver, and turquoise decor.

Congratulations Jacquie & Gabe!
