When we were asked last year if we would photograph the wedding of our dear industry friend and colleague Cortney  (one of the amazing Catering Sales Managers at the Boston Harbor Hotel) we were truly honored and knew her day would be spectacular. Cortney and Gregg celebrated their classic and elegant New England wedding this fall on the North Shore in Gloucester.

Cortney and Gregg met for their first look at the scenic Stage Fort Park before heading to their ceremony and reception at the ocean-side Cruiseport. Guests arrived to the ceremony filled with candlelight, an isle lined with white orchids and hydrangeas, roaring fireplace and musical trio. The couple incorporated Cortney’s Greek heritage into the ceremony with the traditional crowing ceremony.

For their reception, the seaside ballroom was transformed by Lotus Floral Events with hundreds of candles, lush white flower arrangements and an array of crystal vases atop lilac linens on both square and round tables. We loved the surprise addition of the grooms cake as Greg is a race car driver. Guests were welcomed in to the warm and stunning space with the music of the Kahootz band who kept the energetic group on their feet for the evening.

Congratulations Cortney and Gregg and thank you for choosing us to capture such a special and gorgeous celebration for you both!

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of photographing Samantha and Chris’s elegant, fun-filled summer wedding at Belle Mer on Goat Island in Newport. The glamorous, contemporary venue was the perfect setting for the couple’s exquisite and fresh oceanside celebration.

Samantha and her family got ready at Belle Mer while Chris prepared for the day at a nearby hotel with his family. Everyone traveled to Providence for the ceremony which took place at St. Augustine Church. Following the ceremony we headed to the Elms on iconic Bellevue Avenue in Newport to spend some time taking photographs of the newlyweds. The lush green grass and pink and white flowers at the national historic landmark made for a perfect back drop.

The reception and cocktail hour took place back at Belle Mer where everyone gathered to celebrate and dance to the Starlight Duo while enjoying an unbeatable view overlooking the Atlantic ocean and Newport Bridge. The room was glowing with bright colors, soft flowers and a sense of south beach chic. The couple also added a personal touches on their escort cards by including personalized pictures of all the guests and the cake topper included their beloved dog Penny.

For the reception, the couple enjoyed their grand entrance into the ballroom and shared their first dance to “Bonfire Heart” by James Blunt. Samantha, Chris and their guests enjoyed the seaside lawn, aglow with soft lanterns, fire pit and modern white lawn furniture and the music of Starlight Orchestra kept everyone on their feet throughout the evening.

We could not have been happier to be a part of this wonderful celebration. Congratulations Samantha and Chris!

It could not have been a more gorgeous weekend for Sarah + Tyler’s Little Compton, RI wedding! The entire celebration took place at the bride’s family home, from the morning preparation to the tented wedding reception in the evening.  Little Compton is a seaside town known for its sprawling acres of farmland beautiful stonewalls and sandy beaches. The wedding was located on Chace Point a private peninsula with its own private beach. The bride and groom chose to keep the bridal party very small, each of them had only their sister by their side throughout the day. The two beautiful bridesmaids wore lace dresses and all of the ladies carried classic white floral bouquets.

The late afternoon ceremony took place outside, and the weather could not have been better! An outdoor cocktail reception followed the I Do’s, before everyone moved inside the tent to kick off the party. The evening reception was held under a beautiful white sailcloth tent, overlooking the ocean and Rhode Island seaside. A mix of gray linen tables, wood, and mirror-tops made for a really unique and contemporary reception. Lots of candle light made the tent glow as the sun started to set, and kept this beautiful affair feeling really warm and intimate throughout the night. We asked the bride and groom to describe their vision and inspiration for their wedding day, and here’s what they had to say!

We have designed our wedding with the setting at the forefront of our mind. Little Compton, and particularly our wedding venue, is a unique and special place with the stonewall wooden fence, lush greenery, gray rock beach, and sprawling ocean. Our wedding colors fit that setting with neutral tones of gray, green, white, and brown. Our wedding style also fits the setting… and us! We would describe it as classic and elegant, with contemporary touches. We will have candles and reflective mirrors on tables, specially designed orbs hanging from the tent ceiling, lanterns and shepherd hooks throughout the property, and fire pits between the tent and the water.

We were so happy to have been able to share this wedding weekend with such a wonderful couple. Congratulations Sarah + Tyler and thank you for choosing us to document such an important event!!!

Even though Kim and Tommy are both from New York City, they wanted their destination wedding in Newport to be quintessentially “New England”. Their Newport wedding was classic, elegant, and romantic, and had some fun nautical details perfect for this seaside location.

All of the day’s events took place at the Castle Hill Inn, which is located right on the Newport, RI seashore. Kim and Tommy mixed classic colors of navy blue and white with fun pops of pink and coral for a really unique spring color palette. Before gathering friends and family for formal photos on the waterfront, we took the bride and groom (and their dog Watson) to the Castle Hill Lighthouse for their first look. While we captured formal photos of Kim, Tommy, and the rest of their bridal party, the arriving guests enjoyed a rustic hot cider and lemonade stand, and complementary pink pashminas to fend off the ocean breeze. The early evening ceremony took place on the waterfront underneath a gorgeous pink and white floral arbor, overlooking the beautiful Newport, RI seaside.

Cocktails were set up out on the lawn with navy and white patterned linens topped with bright pink floral arrangements, while the finishing touches were being put on the Castle Hill Inn tent for the reception. The tent space was filled with a mix of round and long dining tables topped with bright and lush colorful spring flowers in shades of coral, pink, and white. The cool steel gray linens were accented with bright coral napkins on each place setting, and rows of white votive candles were integrated into each of the table’s centerpieces. Following the first dance, parent dances, and toasts, the party really started to kick off! Guests enjoyed a treasure chest full of fun pirate and nautical props — from parrots and eye-patches to sailor’s hats and plush shark hats — and tapped into their inner “seafarer” while they danced the night away.

Special thanks to Stephanie Frazier Grimm and her team at Coture Parties for such a wonderful event, and to the entire team at the Castle Hill Inn! Congratulations Kim and Tommy, and thank you for including us in your beautiful Newport, RI wedding day.

It’s not too late in the summer for a beautiful nautical wedding by the sea! Giuliana + Marc’s Wentworth by the Sea wedding in Newcastle, NH was fun, chic, summery, and full of adorable nautical details.

Giuliana + Marc mixed the classic nautical colors of white and navy blue with fun pops of pink to make a really unique seaside affair. The bride carried a bouquet of soft pink roses, while her bridesmaids paired navy blue dresses with hot pink heels and bright pink bouquets. Even the guys had a splash of color — both the groom and his groomsmen wore hot pink socks under their suits!

Following the ceremony, which took place at St. Rose of Lima Church in Topsfield, we grabbed some beautiful photographs outside with the newlyweds and wedding party. We took advantage of the gorgeous sunny day and nearby harbor to get some great seaside wedding photos with Giuliana + Marc before heading into the Wentworth by the Sea for the evening party.

The Ballroom was beautiful, with dark navy blue linens and classic white ballroom chairs around each table. The tables were topped with a mix of high and low floral centerpieces, which really made the room pop with mixes of bright pink and green summer flowers. Their stunning four-tiered white wedding cake was embellished with silver sparkle on each layer, and displayed on a hot pink table sprinkled with white rose petals. Guests kicked off their heels and grabbed comfy white and navy blue flip flops from the bride and groom, stored in a small wooden rowboat next to the dance floor!

We loved this really unique spin on a classic nautical summer wedding. It was a perfect seaside affair, with a little pop of personality from the bride and groom! Congratulations to Giuliana + Marc on your beautiful Wentworth by the Sea Wedding — thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!

We love summer weddings by the sea, and Teryl + Jake could not have picked a more perfect day for their beautiful summer wedding at Misselwood. The sweeping green lawns and ocean view made for a stunning location for this outdoor summer wedding and tented evening reception.

Teryl started the day at her family home in nearby Gloucester, getting ready with all of her bridesmaids. Her strapless wedding dress had a beautifully classic long train, which she accented with dangling chandelier earrings and her grandmother’s pearl headpiece. Jake and his groomsmen got ready for the big day at a local inn in Beverly — the couple did not want to see each other before Teryl walked down the aisle, so we got some quick pictures of the bride and groom separately before the ceremony began.

The outdoor wedding ceremony took place on the Misselwood lawn, right in front of the beautiful ocean coast. We loved the groom’s reaction when he finally saw his bride walking down the aisle — you could tell how happy he was to be seeing her! After the “I do”s, we got some great seaside wedding pictures with the happy newlywed’s and their bridal party. The bridesmaids wore beautiful blue dresses that were matched by the groomsmen’s ties — all the colors looked fantastic in front of the blue ocean! We kept Teryl + Jake a little bit longer to get some shots with just the two of them before heading into Misselwood’s reception tent.

The tent was beautifully lit with strings of lights and gold chandeliers, and all of the decor incorporated soft touches of white and purple. The table centerpieces included elegant submerged purple flowers topped with white candles, and even the classic white wedding cake was topped with purple and white summer blossoms. When Teryl and Jake cut their cake later in the evening, even the inside of the cake was revealed to be purple velvet! When the party started to kick off and the night of dancing began, the bride and groom ditched their wedding shoes for comfy pairs of blue and green converse — with “husband” and “wife” printed right on the back.

Congratulations Teryl + Jake on a beautiful summer wedding at Misselwood, and thank you for letting us be a part of your special day!

There are so many fantastic New England wedding venues perfect for a seaside wedding — whether you’re right outside of Boston on the North Shore,  south in Rhode Island or on Cape Cod! Christina and Tony chose the beautiful Chatham Bars Inn for their summer wedding on the Cape, an elegant beach wedding with lots of blue, white and natural elements.

Christina and her bridesmaids began the day getting ready in a suite above the Beach House Grill, with a great view of the ocean right outside.  Christina’s gown was perfect for a summer beach wedding — a strapless mermaid cut dress with an embellished silver belt. The bridal party wore strapless seafoam green dresses, and Christina gifted necklaces and matching clutch purses to all the ladies before the wedding. All of the women carried white and green summer flowers, tied with a matching seafoam ribbon for the bridesmaids and a creme-colored ribbon for the bride.

The outdoor ceremony took place on the Chatham Bars Inn lawn, overlooking the ocean. Christina and her father made a grand entrance down the staircase towards the beautifully decorated white and green archway for the ceremony. Following the “I do”s, a traditional Scottish bagpiper lead the happy newlyweds across the Chatham Bars Inn boardwalk down to the beach for some formal pictures with the couple, their wedding party and families.

We got some great photographs of the bride and groom with their bridal party right on the water’s edge, with classic Cape Cod boats floating just behind in the background. The groom and groomsmen were dressed in tan suits, with white shirts and a bright blue tie for just a touch of nautical colors.

Before heading to the reception, we had some time to spend alone with Christina and Tony to take some great beach wedding pictures on the footbridge over the water, in the grassy beach dunes, and along the classic New England boardwalk before heading inside to the reception.

The Chatham Bars Inn Beach House was transformed into a beautiful wedding reception space with natural creme-colored linens, clear silver-lined charger plates and dark natural wood ballroom chairs. White and green flowers on all the tabletops added a pop of color to the Beach House, and the clear tent over the outdoor patio made a perfect dance floor for the night’s party. Guests were signing classic Cape Cod lobster buoys in lieu of a guest book, and a traditional lobster trap was set out for gifts and cards.

Following the last dance, the band announced the surprise sparkler exit where guests walked from the Beach House Grill to the after party at The Monomoy. Guests enjoyed night snacks including mini shakes and burgers and hit the dance floor with music from a DJ.

We loved the elegant twist this couple put on a classic beach wedding theme. It had all the right touches of summer, sand, and the seaside for a great Cape Cod wedding. Congratulations Christina and Tony! Also, a big thank you to Allison Wildes Liset who planned this beautiful wedding and the team at the Chatham Bars Inn!

For the first weekend of summer, we traveled to historic Watch Hill, Rhode Island. The weekend of wedding events included a seaside ceremony, beautiful tented reception, and Sunday brunch the next day — all designed, catered, and executed by the amazing team of The Catered Affair.

All of the weekend’s events took place at a private residence in Watch Hill, with beautiful details incorporating bright summer colors, white and blue nautical elements, and touches of Irish heritage important to the family. Megan’s strapless white wedding gown was matched with a simple strand of white pearls, and she carried a bright bouquet of spring peonies. The colors of soft pink, tangerine, and deep cerise were brought into all the elements of the wedding from the ceremony to the brunch. Her hair was held with sparkling shamrock pins, and her veil was custom-made in Ireland with embroidered shamrock details. Even their dog (named Shamrock) wore a seersucker bow tie. Megan’s bridesmaids wore seersucker summer dresses in soft pastel colors, with bright summer sandals to match. Greg was dressed in a Navy suit with a white and blue striped tie. His groomsmen added a pop of color with their bright ties — matching perfectly to the bridesmaid dresses and color coordinated Sperry boat shoes to match.

We took Megan and Greg out onto the home’s balcony for their first look. After some pictures of the happy bride and groom, the couple exchanged gifts. For Megan, a diamond eternity ring and for Greg, a new wristwatch. Greg was shocked as the watch Megan had given him the day of their high-school graduation years ago actually stopped running that morning!

The beach was set up with classic white chairs, and beautiful floral arrangements right in front of the ocean. Lemonade spritzers were handed out as refreshments, and guests were invited to drop off their shoes at the designated Paddle-board “Shoe Check” and enjoy the ceremony barefoot. A station was even set-up for guests to rinse off the sand from their feet before heading back up to cocktails! Colorful bunches of pink and orange rose petals were handed out as guests took their seats, to throw at the big finale after Megan and Greg said “I do”.

Cocktail hour took place on the lawn outside the beautiful reception tent, with white garden chairs and colorful linens. The escort card table displayed three white seashells filled with sand and guests names on individual white sand dollars.

Next door to the main tent was a lounge tent for guests to enjoy throughout the evening, with a dark navy blue canopy covered in large white nautical stars. Soft white and blue furniture was scattered throughout the tent for comfortable seating, and a photo montage of Megan and Greg was played on a large screen for guests to enjoy all night.

The main reception tent from Sperry Tents was built in the house’s backyard directly over the swimming pool, with a custom made clear dance floor covering the water itself! Tan linens were topped with teal and navy blue charger plates for a great pop of color, and soft white china lanterns hung from the tent’s ceiling. The floral centerpieces were directly inspired by a piece of art painted by Greg’s mom for the couple’s wedding invitation.

As the sun started to set, the lanterns glowed in the tent and the trees outside were lit up with hanging lanterns.

Later in the evening, we were given a secret 5-minute warning from the Catered Affair team to bring Megan and Greg outside the tent for one last surprise. We set them up underneath the beautifully lit trees and took a couple pictures, before having them turn around just in time to see a spectacular fireworks show out on the water! It was a great way to kick off the dancing for the happy couple and all of their guests.

The reception tent was transformed on Sunday morning for the after-wedding brunch. The tan linens were replaced with bright tangerine and cerise linens, paired with pops of teal. Lounge furniture was available outside underneath the trees for guests to enjoy the beautiful summer weather, and we took a few minutes to get a couple of photos with Megan and Greg outside on the lawn.

Thank you to Megan, Greg and the whole family for hosting such a wonderful wedding weekend and inviting us to be a part of it. Special thanks to the fabulous team at The Catered Affair for being such a pleasure to work with as always and a big Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Seaside Wedding in Watch Hill Rhode Island with beach ceremony and tented reception. Designed by The Catered Affair. Person + Killian Photography – 251 Newbury Street – Boston, MA 02116 – 617.236.1662

We loved the classic Cape Cod feeling of this wedding — with blue and white flowers and decor, lobster escort cards, and decorative blue anchor emblems popping up in the details. Maggie wore a classic strapless wedding gown and carried a beautiful white bouquet, and Perry matched perfectly in a dark navy suit coat and light blue tie.

We took the couple out to the beach to have their “first look” at each other, and stayed for a while to get some  seaside wedding portraits before the ceremony began. We were joined by the couple’s bridal party and family for some formal portraits on the beach, then headed back up to the Wychmere Beach Club to begin the wedding.

The ceremony itself took place outside on the Wychmere Beach Club lawn, beautifully overlooking the ocean. We snuck away with the bride and groom as soon as the ceremony was finished, so they could make their grand entrance to cocktail hour on a sailboat!

The wedding reception took place in the Wychmere Beach Club Harbor Room, with a breathtaking view of the harbor and sailboats right outside the windows. Tables were covered in simple white linens with beautiful low arrangements of blue and white flowers. Table numbers were displayed in traditional bundles of boating rope, and guests wrote messages on seashells and beach stones for Maggie + Perry instead of filling out a guest book.

Maggie + Perry’s beautiful Wychmere Beach Club wedding was the perfect way to kick off the seaside summer wedding season! There’s nothing like getting away from the city for a classic Cape Cod wedding, and we loved all the nautical details. Thank you to the entire Longwood Events team at the Wychmere Beach Club for being so wonderful to work with, and congratulations Maggie + Perry!

Happy wedding day, indeed! Even though we weren’t there as guests, Person + Killian Photography was thrilled to spend the day at the gorgeous Hyatt Harborside for Stefanie and Michael’s Boston wedding. Overlooking Boston Harbor, the Hyatt’s unique location provides an exceptional view of the city, making it one of Boston’s most scenic wedding venues.

The bridesmaids wore knee-length dresses and carried lovely blue and ivory bouquets. When we asked Stefanie what had inspired these colors, she said this: “We wanted to achieve simple elegance. I chose navy, silver, and ivory as inspiration colors, because I felt they were timeless and didn’t dictate a season. To me, they will always be classic colors that will never go out of style.”

Because Michael is a Boston firefighter, they knew that their wedding album would not be complete without a picture or two of the newlyweds in front of one of the city’s fire trucks!

Even as darkness fell, guests were treated to a stunning vista. What had been a beautiful, sun-lit view of the harbor during the afternoon became a dazzling view of the night skyline once the sun went down.

Stefanie and Michael, thank you for choosing Person + Killian Photography. We had a wonderful time capturing your special day! Congratulations!

With summer drawing to a close, and fall just about upon us, Person + Killian Photography was very excited to have the opportunity to photograph a beautiful Rhode Island wedding  at the Castle Hill Inn this month. Christine and David, who live in New York, were referred to our studio by a friend, and from the moment we met them, we knew that their Newport wedding would be fabulous.

The seaside event, which took place at the Castle Hill Inn & Resort in Newport, was breathtaking. The ceremony took place outdoors, and we couldn’t have hoped for better weather!

Carrying bouquets designed by Stoneblossom Floral & Event Design, the bridesmaids wore dresses of deep purple, which were the perfect complement to the classic linen suits worn by the groomsmen.

As the day wore on, the celebration moved into the large, beautifully decorated tent. From the crisp, clean centerpieces to the brightly colored accent vases, each detail was flawlessly coordinated with the purple and green color palette.

Congratulations, Christine and David, and thank you for selecting Person + Killian Photography. We had a blast capturing your special day!

Every wedding season we have the pleasure of working with fantastic couples that choose Cape Cod for their wedding destination. The Cape is filled with seaside venues in its delightful towns that are packed full of picturesque settings. Together, this makes for the quintessential Cape Cod wedding. So, it was no surprise that Grisha & Robbie’s end of the summer wedding would have science views, New England charm, lovely details, beautiful weather and a gorgeous sunset.

Congratulations Grisha & Robbie and thank you for trusting Person + Killian Photography to be a part of this important day! It was a pleasure working with you and your lovely families.
