It’s time for the winter wedding season to begin! This elegant and modern wedding was extra special for a few reasons — not only is the bride a long-time Boston wedding industry colleague and fabulous wedding planner, but this was one of the first events in the Boston Public Library’s brand new Boylston Hall. Paige and Chris added so many sweet personal touches, and really made their wedding day special for the two of them and all of their guests.

The wedding day started at the Fairmont Copley, and we didn’t need to stray far from Copley Square for any of the special events. Paige and Chris got ready inside the hotel, then met outside in the Square for their first look. We took advantage of the fountains, the city streets, and the wreath-covered Boston Public Library for some romantic photos of the bride and groom. We were then joined by the wedding part inside the Boston Public Library for formal photos of the whole group, and we had plenty of gorgeous places to choose from inside the historic building. The wedding ceremony was held in the Boston Public Library Courtyard, which was lined with candles, white pillars, and towering green florals while Paige and Chris said their “I do”s.

The wedding reception brought a special treat for guests and for us — it was held in the Boston Public Library’s brand new Boylston Hall. This was the first time we’ve seen the new space for an event, and it is a perfect addition to the Boston Public Library’s already gorgeous venue. Paige and Chris chose a modern and elegant color palette of black, white, and crystal, a perfect contrast to the Boylston Hall’s marbled floors and high ceilings. A few tall green and white centerpieces added a beautiful pop of color to the room, which otherwise stayed true to the modern black and white decor. The talented teams at Marc Hall Design, PEAK Event Services, RESERVE Modern Event Rental and ALPS Lighting executed Paige’s vision to perfection.

We loved the personal touches Paige and Chris added to their wedding celebration, including a surprise entrance under a baseball bat tunnel (Chris is a baseball fan), and a “cutting the pizza” in lieu of cutting the cake. Their wedding day was a true reflection of their unique relationship, and we were so happy to share this wonderful day with them.

We recently had the great pleasure of photographing Chris and Zach’s sophisticated fall Boston Public Library wedding this past November. We are so fortunate to be referred by our past couples, we consider it the highest possible compliment. In the case of Chris and Zach’s wedding, we had three past couples in attendance including two of Chris’s brothers and one of Zach’s best friends who were all in the wedding party.

The gentlemen were formal in their crisp tuxes with white bow ties from Brooks Brothers while the women in the bridal party wore black floor-length gowns from Belsoie. The first look took place in Copley Square, just outside the Fairmont Copley where we captured the sweet, quiet moment.

Chris and Zach wanted to celebrate together with friends and family showcasing the city they love. While final preparations for the day were underway and just before the ceremony, Chris and Zach hopped on a trolley and visited some of their favorite locations in Boston with their wedding party. They stopped in their South End neighborhood for a few photos with their adorable lab, Ezra, and continued along to the Comm. Ave Mall as the holiday tree lights were being strung. Next, off to the Public Garden and Charles River Waterfront and finally, iconic Acorn Street in Beacon Hill.

Officiated by a good friend, the couple held their wedding ceremony in the library’s stunning Courtyard. Surrounded by their loved ones, Chris and Zach exchanged their vows. After the ceremony, cocktail hour followed in the Guastavino Room.

While guests finished cocktail hour, we made our way upstairs to Bates Hall for the reception. The quintessential green lamps along the tables popped against a vibrant array of orchids. Gorgeous lighting and linens filled out the space making it warm and inviting. After toasts and cake cutting, the Boylston Room was transformed into a lounge and the Abbey Room for dancing. A good time was had by all while we captured the hora complete with the Mannequin Challenge; an evening full of laughter and celebrating.

Thank you to the wonderful team of professionals we had the pleasure of working with on this lovely wedding and congratulations again to Chris and Zach. Thank you for letting Person + Killian Photography be a part of such a special day for you both!

We recently had the pleasure of capturing Alex and Anthony’s summer Boston Public Library wedding. Alex and Anthony loved the grand architecture and dramatic scenery that the BPL has to offer. The day began at the Westin Copley where the ladies gathered to help Alex get ready for her First Look. Alex’s Amsale dress has the prettiest bow with amazing pockets. The ladies wore long, elegant gowns while the gentlemen were formal in black tuxedos with crisp pocket squares. The couple decided to have their First Look on the Grand Staircase where they had a few private moments before heading off to get some formal shots of the entire wedding party.

The Courtyard at the BPL is both lavish and bright and makes for an absolutely amazing ceremony location. Alex and Anthony exchanged vows, rings (and tears!) surrounded by their nearest and dearest. As we moved from cocktails in the Courtyard to Bates Hall, we snapped a large group shot of the newlyweds with all of their guests!

The reception was located in Bates Hall and filled with the romantic glow of the historic green lamps and twinkling candlelight. Alex and Anthony created a classic, clean palette of whites, creams and greens which lined the center of tables that felt timeless. The newlyweds love croquembouche and opted to serve it in place of a traditional wedding cake.  As the evening continued, Alex and Anthony converted the Abbey Room into a lounge filled with jeweled-tone uplights. The DJ kept the dance floor moving as the night moved from dinner to dancing.

Thank you to Alex and Anthony for trusting us to shoot your wedding.  Congratulations again – may your life together be as beautiful as your wedding!  Special thanks to the Boston Public Library and the expert staff at The Catered Affair.

Having spoke their very first words in the library there could be no better place than the elegance of the Boston Public Library for Kailey and Nick to say “I do.” Kailey, who gushed that it reminded her of travels abroad to France and Switzerland and Nick, a proclaimed history buff and lover of literature (Hemingway and Cormack McCarthy to be specific) were enchanted by it’s old European charm.

Graceful touches of white, blush, gold and whimsical cascading florals served as inspiration for Kailey and Nick’s romantic and polished day of celebration. A heartwarming exchanging of vows took place inside the Boston Public Library’s picturesque courtyard and friends and family enjoyed an evening of dancing and the playful tablescape of delightfully delectable sweets and treats by The Catered Affair.

Thank you to Kailey and Nick for choosing Person + Killian Photography to document your incredible day. We hope your lives are filled with love and happiness as you write the rest of your story.

Beth and Tyler chose the historic and beautiful Boston Public Library for their wedding day. The Boston based couple chose the library because they wanted a, “Jane Austen library feel” for their wedding, and they couldn’t have picked a better place. The ornate spaces in the library including the courtyard, grand staircase and Guastavino Room, coupled with the history and Copley Square location provided the perfect setting for their day.

The bride got ready at their nearby home while the groom was getting ready at the Westin Hotel, conveniently located right across the street from the library. Beth and her bridesmaids enjoyed a trolley ride to the library and we made a couple of stops along the way for photos including the stunning Trinity Church in the heart of Copley Square before heading across the street to the library.

Beth and Tyler exchanged their vows in the picturesque Courtyard in front of the fountain, accented with purple and white floral arrangements.  Following the ceremony, guests remained in the Courtyard and enjoyed cocktails while we spent some time with the couple and their wedding party taking formal photographs. Sunset provided a stunning backdrop for a few pictures of the newlyweds on the steps of the library before they headed back inside to join their guests.

For the reception, guests moved into the Gustavino Room. In keeping with their theme, each table included one of the Beth and Tyler’s favorite books for their guests to sign their well wishes. Beth, Tyler and their family and friends enjoyed dinner and danced for the rest of the evening with music by C-Zone Entertainment. Congratulations Beth and Tyler and thank you for having us there to capture your beautiful day and to The Catered Affair at the BPL team for always being so fantastic to work with!

We were so excited when we got the phone call from Lindsay + Greg for this wedding — we had worked with Lindsay’s family a few years ago, and we could not wait to reconnect for another wonderful event! This time around it was a gorgeous summer wedding at the Boston Public Library, and we had a blast celebrating with this fun and adorable couple.

We started the weekend at the rehearsal dinner Friday night, which took place at the Downtown Harvard Club of Boston. The dinner had a fun, seaside flair with classic white and blue decor, and beautiful floral centerpieces featuring seashells, starfish, and natural drift wood by Carol Silverston. We rejoined the bride and groom the next morning where everyone got ready at the beautiful Fairmont Copley Plaza right in the heart of Copley Square. Once they were ready to go we made the short walk across the street to the Boston Public Library.

The afternoon ceremony took place out in the stunning Boston Public Library Courtyard, which features lush summer greenery and a beautiful fountain right in the center. The bride and groom decided not to see each other before the walk down the aisle, and we loved seeing Greg’s face when he finally saw his bride! After the I Do’s, which took place under a gorgeous Chuppah, we took the newlyweds inside for some family formals on the Boston Public Library’s grand staircase. While the rest of the guests and bridal party enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, we took Lindsay and Greg around the library for photos of just the two of them.

The evening reception took place in the Library’s Guastavino Room, which was transformed with modern mirror-top tables, white and silver linens, and a mix of black and clear chairs around each. Carol Silverston of The Original Touch created the beautiful decor and floral designs, which included  mixes of towering white and pink arrangements on each table for a wonderful pop of color. A patterned wash of cool blue and purple light gave the room a bright and colorful glow, which looked amazing on the black dance floor.

The bride and groom had so much fun and it was contagious throughout the night! Guests enjoyed their first dance (concluding with a fast choreographed portion that got everyone cheering), as well as toasts from friends and family before hitting the dance floor, packing into the photo booth, and having an absolute blast with the happy couple. The after party moved into the Boston Public Library’s Map Room and Cafe, that included a ping pong table, corn hole and giant Jenga.

We could not have been happier to share this day with Lindsay, Greg, and their wonderful families. Special thanks to the entire Catered Affair Team at the Boston Public Library, as well as Carol Silverston, Jodi Raphael and their team for such a wonderful event.

We were thrilled to have been asked by Peterson Party Center to photograph the decor for the 11th annual Party In the Park yesterday. Plus it’s always a pleasure to photograph the beautiful work of our industry friends at, The Catered Affair, Winston Flowers and Table Toppers of Newton!

“This years event took place at the Pinebank Promontory at Jamaica Pond, to support the restoration and maintenance of the Emerald Necklace park system. The genius of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed more than 1,100 acres of meadows, woodlands and paths, can be enjoyed by all more than 100 years after the completion of his work, thanks to the stewardship of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy in collaboration with its public partners

The Party in the Park is one of the conservancy’s surest signs of spring and one of the most anticipated social events in Boston. To date, the luncheon has generated a $3 million endowment fund for the parks.

Every May, just as spring declares itself in Boston, the luncheon draws hundreds of parks champions to gather for an elegant lunch served in a beautiful tent in one of the Necklace parks. Known as the “hat lunch” because so many guests complement their spring wardrobes with flowers, feathers and fascinators, the party is planned over the course of a year by an all-volunteer committee to ensure a memorable afternoon.” – Emerald Necklace

Boston Event Photography – Party In the Park 2014 with Peterson Party Center & The Catered Affair by Person + Killian Photography

We loved all the details of this beautiful tented summer wedding! The happy couple decided to have a wedding at home, surrounded by their closest friends and family. The entire event was planned and catered by the talented team at The Catered Affair and tented by Peterson Party Center – including a stunning ceremony tent, a cocktail tent, and a reception tent so exquisite it could have been a ballroom! We took advantage of the perfect summer weather and got some poolside photos with the bride, groom, and their family before the day’s events began.

The afternoon ceremony was held in a pale yellow and white tent on the property. The four open walls of the tent were draped with yellow linen, and the white ballroom chairs had soft yellow cushions to match. The aisle was lined with six towering custom made topiaries in sleek silver vases, and the front altar featured three large white panels with beautiful chains of soft yellow roses. A string quartet provided elegant background music for the romantic “I do”s.

Cocktail hour was set up in a round, open-sided tent in the backyard, and extended onto their beautiful stone patio. High and low cocktail tables were decorated with fun yellow and grey patterned linens, and topped with white and green floral arrangements. A fabulous raw bar was provided by The Catered Affair team, with large ice displays of shrimp and oysters for guests to enjoy before dinner.

The first thing you could see before entering the evening’s reception tent built over the tennis court was a stunning entrance way with greenery from top to bottom, designed by Marc Hall.  Once inside, the entrance space was lined with two long white tables displaying the escort cards and topped with beautiful arrangements of green ferns and white flowers. Two long mirrors and a stunning crystal chandelier made you forget you were in a tent altogether!

The reception tent itself was exquisite – the white fabric walls and ceilings were covered in soft pink and fuchsia lighting, and a custom white monogram was projected onto the dance floor surrounded by purple light. Patterned yellow linens were mixed with modern mirror-top tables, and paired with beautiful white ballroom chairs detailed with a textured back. A few large wing-back chairs and comfy white loveseats were interspersed throughout the tent, for a fun and eclectic atmosphere. The floral centerpieces featured soft white peonies with pops of bright yellow, large green ferns, and cascading white orchids. The tall arrangements were surrounded by smaller groups of white and yellow flowers, to really fill the table with color. The ceiling of the tent was hung with gorgeous crystal chandeliers, which provided a warm and glowing atmosphere for the night’s party.

Following the reception, the celebration moved back into the ceremony tent — which had been transformed into a fun and colorful after-party. The walls of yellow linen were replaced with a clear lining, and beautiful round chandeliers were hung over lounge area for guests to relax and enjoy the night. The tent popped with bright purple textured lighting and deep pink floral arrangements.

Everyone had a fantastic evening celebrating this day with the new bride and groom, and the newlyweds could not have been happier to be surrounded by all their friends, family, and loved ones for their one-of-a-kind summer wedding! Special thanks to the fantastic team at The Catered Affair for planning such a beautiful event. Congratulations to the happy couple!

For the first weekend of summer, we traveled to historic Watch Hill, Rhode Island. The weekend of wedding events included a seaside ceremony, beautiful tented reception, and Sunday brunch the next day — all designed, catered, and executed by the amazing team of The Catered Affair.

All of the weekend’s events took place at a private residence in Watch Hill, with beautiful details incorporating bright summer colors, white and blue nautical elements, and touches of Irish heritage important to the family. Megan’s strapless white wedding gown was matched with a simple strand of white pearls, and she carried a bright bouquet of spring peonies. The colors of soft pink, tangerine, and deep cerise were brought into all the elements of the wedding from the ceremony to the brunch. Her hair was held with sparkling shamrock pins, and her veil was custom-made in Ireland with embroidered shamrock details. Even their dog (named Shamrock) wore a seersucker bow tie. Megan’s bridesmaids wore seersucker summer dresses in soft pastel colors, with bright summer sandals to match. Greg was dressed in a Navy suit with a white and blue striped tie. His groomsmen added a pop of color with their bright ties — matching perfectly to the bridesmaid dresses and color coordinated Sperry boat shoes to match.

We took Megan and Greg out onto the home’s balcony for their first look. After some pictures of the happy bride and groom, the couple exchanged gifts. For Megan, a diamond eternity ring and for Greg, a new wristwatch. Greg was shocked as the watch Megan had given him the day of their high-school graduation years ago actually stopped running that morning!

The beach was set up with classic white chairs, and beautiful floral arrangements right in front of the ocean. Lemonade spritzers were handed out as refreshments, and guests were invited to drop off their shoes at the designated Paddle-board “Shoe Check” and enjoy the ceremony barefoot. A station was even set-up for guests to rinse off the sand from their feet before heading back up to cocktails! Colorful bunches of pink and orange rose petals were handed out as guests took their seats, to throw at the big finale after Megan and Greg said “I do”.

Cocktail hour took place on the lawn outside the beautiful reception tent, with white garden chairs and colorful linens. The escort card table displayed three white seashells filled with sand and guests names on individual white sand dollars.

Next door to the main tent was a lounge tent for guests to enjoy throughout the evening, with a dark navy blue canopy covered in large white nautical stars. Soft white and blue furniture was scattered throughout the tent for comfortable seating, and a photo montage of Megan and Greg was played on a large screen for guests to enjoy all night.

The main reception tent from Sperry Tents was built in the house’s backyard directly over the swimming pool, with a custom made clear dance floor covering the water itself! Tan linens were topped with teal and navy blue charger plates for a great pop of color, and soft white china lanterns hung from the tent’s ceiling. The floral centerpieces were directly inspired by a piece of art painted by Greg’s mom for the couple’s wedding invitation.

As the sun started to set, the lanterns glowed in the tent and the trees outside were lit up with hanging lanterns.

Later in the evening, we were given a secret 5-minute warning from the Catered Affair team to bring Megan and Greg outside the tent for one last surprise. We set them up underneath the beautifully lit trees and took a couple pictures, before having them turn around just in time to see a spectacular fireworks show out on the water! It was a great way to kick off the dancing for the happy couple and all of their guests.

The reception tent was transformed on Sunday morning for the after-wedding brunch. The tan linens were replaced with bright tangerine and cerise linens, paired with pops of teal. Lounge furniture was available outside underneath the trees for guests to enjoy the beautiful summer weather, and we took a few minutes to get a couple of photos with Megan and Greg outside on the lawn.

Thank you to Megan, Greg and the whole family for hosting such a wonderful wedding weekend and inviting us to be a part of it. Special thanks to the fabulous team at The Catered Affair for being such a pleasure to work with as always and a big Congratulations to the newlyweds!

The outdoor courtyard at the Boston Public Library is one of our favorite ceremony locations in the city! The beautiful gardens and Italian-inspired fountain make for a perfect backdrop to a warm-weather wedding. We loved being back in the courtyard for our first Boston Public Library wedding of the season to celebrate Mia + Michael.

The Boston Public Library has so many unique spaces for all sorts of fun pictures — after getting ready at the nearby Lenox Hotel, the bride and groom decided to have their “first look” on the BPL’s magnificent grand staircase. We stayed inside the main lobby to get some shots with Mia, Michael and their wedding party before heading outside to the courtyard for the ceremony. Guests remained out in the courtyard to enjoy the spring weather for their cocktail hour, while we took the newlyweds around the venue for some more pictures.

The party was moved inside for the reception — the Courtyard Restaurant was revamped to match Mia and Michael’s colors with purple linens, beautiful purple floral arrangements, silver chiavari chairs and purple lighting to complete the look. A traditional cake cutting, toasts, and a night full of dancing (including an impromptu Hora) followed in the adjacent Map Room. Everyone had a blast celebrating this great couple – including us!

Special thanks to the always fantastic team of The Catered Affair at the Boston Public Library for another beautiful event, and congratulations Mia and Michael!

From Mia + Michael – “Jill, Thank you so so so much. We LOVE the photos!!!!  I have already looked through the cd so many times!! I couldn’t be more in love with the photos!!!  You were amazing to work with!”

Even though Blair and Jon now live out in Washington DC, these two Boston natives decided to come back home for their beautiful Boston Public Library Wedding!

We were excited to be able to photograph not only the wedding day itself, but the rehearsal dinner the night before on the Rooftop of the Taj Boston.

The next day we met up with both Blair and Jon at the lovely Fairmont Copley Plaza and then made the short walk across the street to the Boston Public Library, in the heart of downtown Boston’s Copley Square. At the center of the Library itself is a gorgeous outdoor Courtyard, lined with summer greens and flowers. Blair and Jon decided to have their ceremony out here, and the late summer weather held out perfectly for them. The reception took place inside the Library, with dinner being served in the stunning Bates Hall, and dancing taking place in the more intimate Abbey Room.

Because the Boston Public Library is already such an ornately decorated space in its architecture alone, Blair and Jon wanted to keep their decor simple, elegant and romantic. They added tones of white, cream, and champagne to compliment the space, rather than compete with it. Overall they wanted their entire wedding to be classic and traditional, so that “30 years from now, we would still love it!”.

Congratulations Blair and Jon, and thank you for being so fantastic to work with!

Praise from the Bride – Person + Killian photographed both my wedding and rehearsal dinner, and the pictures are amazing!!!! I received the first “teaser” while on my honeymoon, and literally started jumping up and down with excitement. Once the wedding is over, the photos are the only real memories/proof that you have that it really happened, and Lauren Killian captured the entire weekend perfectly. Aside from the pictures, the experience of working with Lauren was also amazing. She was so professional and made me feel comfortable throughout the weekend, which to me was priceless (she even helped take my veil out!) While I am sure there are plenty of great photographers in the area, working with Person + Killian is a guarantee for fabulous pictures and a calming presence on a day where those are the two things you want more than anything!
