We are truly honored to have been chosen to capture the wedding of Amanda Belichick and AJ DeSantis who wed last summer at the Weekapaug Inn in Rhode Island. The beautiful wedding weekend, expertly planned and coordinated by the über talented Amy Kimball of Amy Kimball Events is gracing the pages of the inaugural issue of Modern Luxury Weddings Boston and we could not be more thrilled to share! “Teamates for Life – This couple wanted a wedding that was genuinely them and called on top wedding experts to create their dream nuptials.
Amanda Belichick, head women’s lacrosse coach at Holy Cross College, might play by the rules when on the field, but she and her husband, AJ DeSantis, rewrote the book when it came to their nuptials at the Weekapaug Inn. “All of our friends and family staying together was something that I really wanted,” says Amanda. “We wanted a New England spot that we could go back to and that would become a special place for us.”
The duo, who met online in 2014, wanted to create and unforgettable experience without adhering to typical wedding traditions. “We didn’t do anything that we didn’t have any personal draw to,” says Amanda, daughter of New England Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick. “In a log of ways, that gave us freedom in that there weren’t a lot of expectations… we literally just did what we wanted!” The lovebirds enlisted the help of event planner Amy Kimball to help them execute their idea of an organic, natural and sophisticated wedding. “We just clicked with her. She made everything fun.”
Kimball helped the happy couple execute their vision of an intimate and down-to-earth celebration – sans traditional event elements such as the bride wearing borrowed and blue items or throwing the bouquet. “Everything we did had meaning to the couple; all the details were quite personal, from working with exquisite handmade paper for the invitations, to the delicate leaves custom sewn on her dress that connected to the design inspiration for the wedding,” says Kimball. guests were welcomed to the Weekapaug Inn with customized reusable natural-fiber gift bags stocked with traveling games, an dthe bride and groom’s favorite snacks. The wedding weekend started off with a bang at the welcome dinner thanks to a surprise 15-minute fireworks display that the groom had arranged, to the bride’s delight. It was in line with the groom’s romantic side – he had proposed to Amanda in their home, which he filled with vases of flowers, a petal pathway and sweet cards with beautiful sentiments he wrote himself.
Amanda walked down the aisle in a custom silk chiffon corseted gown with hand embrodiery by One by Maya with her father. Her gown was accented by a special necklace that ensured her parents would always be close. The center diamond is from her mother’s engagement ring and the marquise-cut diamonds are from Super Bowl pendants gifted by the bride’s father, from New York Giants’ wins in 1986 and 1990, and New England Patriots wins in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
Amanda and AJ were wed by a close friend of the groom’s late parents under a custom canopy made from flowing white sail fabric dressed with loose green vines. Stoneblossom Floral and Event Design created a progressive story from the ceremony to cocktails and reception with textural greens and flowers in shades of white, subtle nudes and soft blush pink.
“Amy knew what we wanted when we didn’t know how to ask for it,” says Amanda. “The way the elements came together in the space on the day of the wedding was truly magical.”
